THE WORM’S REMAINS
The Kynblade, one of the many weapons given to mortals by the daedra, is a blade the gives its wielder the power to turn innocents into mindless bloodfiends, creatures attracted by nothing but blood and flesh. When Azaber Kogom learned of this blade, he immediately gathered the Inquesters and briefed them on this new expedition. The blade was located in Rivenspire, in the Ayleid ruins leading to up to the Doomcrag. This province of the Daggerfall Covenant had suffered through enough with the last vampire crisis and the Compendium needed to acquire this weapon, for such a power could not stay in the hands of worm cultists.
The members present for the expedition were the two argonians Talks-with-Claws and Vabi, the young templar Roran Austoire, Amiileii and Rizon Kernost the adventurous mage. They departed for Rivenspire’s northern coast, where the sea clashed against the Ayleid ruins, slowly eroding the memories of the ancient elven civilization. Once they were all ready, they headed into the ruins, going through an archway which served as the only way in. As they walked through the ruins for what seemed like an hour or two, they noticed a few bloodfiends walking mindlessly around the ruins, looking at the ground as they walked without purpose.
As they kept on walking, they passed by two bloodfiend who were dangerously close. Roran immediately attempted to use his new staff… unsuccessfully, but the group had his back, they all started attacking the bloodfiends and Roran managed to use his staff properly and dispatch quickly of the bloodfiends with the help of his partners. And so, the group kept on going deeper and deeper into the ruins until they reached a second archway. But as they walked through it, they were surrounded by a dome of hard red luminescent mist and spoken to by a voice that echoed against the walls of the ruins. The voice was unstable, angry and asked them why they were intruding. As the voice started summoning a flesh colossus to wipe out the group, Vabi asked if it wanted to ask the group riddles instead. The rationally questionable voice stopped the summoning and instead was intrigued by the Argonian’s comment, it accepted and asked a simple riddle that the group managed to answer without much effort. The barrier disappeared and the group was then able to to continue on their quest.
The same thing happened a little further into the ruins when the group walked through what used to be an Ayleid hall. Talks-with-Claws, Vabi and Rizon stayed behind as they expected the barrier to lock them inside, but Roran and Amiileii thoughtlessly walked in. As expected, a dome locked Roran and Amii inside the hall with a group of bloodfiends as the voice asked another riddle to the group. The riddle was once again fairly easy to answer, but when the barrier was lifted, Amiileii recklessly insulted the voice who decided that the time for games had ended. A flesh colossus came out of the ground and attacked the group who barely managed to defeat it, but by the time they had taken the colossus down a horde of bloodfiends started rushing towards their location.
A dark figure dropped from the sky and took down the closest bloodfiends before urging the group to leave these ruins. The figure turned out to be a skeletal Khajiit who seemed extremely familiar with this place, he offered the group some covering fire with Rizon to buy the rest of them the necessary time to make their escape. Most Inquesters agreed to leave the ruins as an army of bloodfiends got closer by the second. Amiileii strangely decided to stay behind and charge the bloodfiends, who unsurprisingly overwhelmed her in an instant. Rizon ran to her rescue and conjured a firestorm that burned through most of the bloodfiends that were attacking Amiileii, burning herself greatly and making her lose consciousness in the process. The Khajiit ran towards the two unconscious women and activated Amii’s brass sphere to transport her back to the Lab, but he didn’t find an orb in Rizon’s belongings. Instead, he grabbed the mage and took her away to save her from the incoming horde of bloodfiends.
Back in the Lab, Azaber walked outside to greet the Inquesters but was quickly taken aback by the grim situation. Vabi, Talks-with-Claws and Roran were fine, but Amii’s unconscious body was teleported in front of them with no signs of Rizon anywhere. Azaber quickly brought Amii to the infirmary to heal her wounds, but would soon need to ask her about what happened, as soon as she’d wake up. There would need to be a rescue mission to get Rizon back, but the question would be when… and would the cultist be ready for their return?
